È un altro giorno, e la macchina da presa fa una panoramica sul villaggio mentre suona una musica allegra.
It’s another day, and the camera pans the village as cheerful music plays.
La macchina inizia a muoversi verso il basso e trova Karin che prende il sole, distesa su un masso in spiaggia. Lei proietta un'ombra enorme.
The camera begins to move downward and finds Karin sunbathing, lying on a boulder at the beach. She casts a huge shadow.
In primo piano, per una volta, Karin sembra in pace.
In close-up, Karin looks at peace, for once.
Quando dei ragazzi passano di corsa, sguazzando nell'acqua, Karin si alza per guardarli. Il suo ombelico è visibile sotto la sua camicetta annodata.
When children come running by, splashing into the water, Karin sits up to watch them. Her midriff is visible under her knotted blouse.
Scende dalle rocce con cautela verso l’acqua.
She moves carefully down the rocks toward the water.
Tirando su la gonna, entra in acqua per raggiungere i ragazzi, che sono chinati, con lo sguardo rivolto verso il basso. Lei chiede loro: “Che cosa cercate?”
“Cerchiamo patelle!”
Lei prova a sbirciare.
Pulling up her skirt, she wades into the sea to join the children, who are bent over, looking down. She asks them, “What are you looking for?”
“We’re looking for limpets.”
She strains to get a glimpse.
Con la gonna stretta in una mano, segue i bambini sulle rocce scivolose. “Aspettate, vengo anch'io!” esclama lei.
Quando si fermano, chiede: “Avete trovato qualcosa?”
With her skirt clenched in one hand, she follows the children over the slippery rocks. “Wait! I’m coming too!” she exclaims.
When they stop, she asks, “Have you found something?”
Un uomo si avvicina su una barca a remi e grida un saluto a Karin. Lei non lo riconosce, ma saluta con la mano, senza sorridere. Lui rema verso di lei, salutandola con un gesto a sua volta. Finalmente lei lo riconosce: è il guardiano del faro. Ricambia il suo saluto con entusiasmo, scoppiando in un sorriso.
A man approaches in a row boat and shouts a greeting to Karin. She doesn’t recognize him, but she waves, not smiling. He rows towards her, waving back. Finally, she recognizes him: the lighthouse keeper. She returns his greeting enthusiastically, breaking into a grin.
Lei si avvicina, stringendo ancora la gonna, e si aggrappa al lato della barca. “Come sta? Sta meglio adesso?” gli chiede.
“Sì”.
She wades over, still clutching her skirt, and grabs the side of the boat. “How are you? Do you feel better now?” she asks him.
“Yes.”
Proprio in quel momento emerge un ragazzo che tiene in mano un polpo. “Ehi! Ehi!” Karin e il guardiano del faro si voltano a guardare.
Just then, a boy surfaces, holding up an octopus. “Hey! Hey!” Karin and the lighthouse keeper turn to look.
All'improvviso, il polpo non c'è più! “È scappato!”– dice il ragazzo – “Ci vuole lo specchio!” Il guardiano del faro si arrotola i pantaloni, pronto ad aiutarlo.
Suddenly, the octopus is gone! “It got away!” the boy says. “We need the looking glass!” The lighthouse keeper rolls up his pants, ready to help.
Entra in acqua con il suo specchio, un grosso cilindro. Prendendo il braccio di Karin, le mostra come guardare sott'acqua. La gonna di Karin è sollevata fino alle cosce.
He steps into the water with his looking glass, a large cylinder. Taking Karin’s arm, he shows her how to look underwater. Her skirt is hitched up to her thighs.
“Guardi qui”, dice lui, mentre lei si china, tenendo indietro i capelli. Lo specchio individua il polpo che si nasconde sul fondo del mare. “Guardi! Lo vede?”
“Look here,” he says, as she leans over, holding back her hair. The looking glass spots the octopus hiding at the bottom of the sea. “Look! Do you see it?”
Poi si abbassa e raccoglie la creatura. Karin, spaventata, cade nell’acqua.
Then he reaches down and picks up the creature. Karin, startled, falls into the water.
Lui la tira su e lei gli mette un braccio intorno alle spalle, ridendo.
He pulls her back up and she puts her arm around his shoulders, laughing.
Lo guarda negli occhi, sorridendo, ma il sorriso si spegne quando nota che le donne del villaggio la stanno guardando accigliate dalla riva.
She looks into his eyes, smiling, but her smile fades as she notices the women of the village are frowning down at her from the shore.
